🖤𝗝𝗼𝗮𝗻 𝗝𝗲𝘁𝘁 𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗸𝗸 made history in 1992 as the first drag queen to run for president, as a Queer Nation candidate. She says of her campaign: 𝘞𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘳 𝘶𝘱 𝘢𝘴 𝘮𝘶𝘤𝘩 𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘢𝘴 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘦. Now, this queer visionary needs our support. Joan experienced a major stroke in 2024, and will require lifelong care.
Few living queer elders hold as much of our vital history as Joan. Her militancy stretches back 50 years— to the Gay Liberation Front in Detroit and the first Radical Faerie gatherings in the Midwest, as a founder of Queer Nation in Chicago, and through ACT UP in San Francisco. Her life weaves together the vanguards of the queer movement, Black liberation, punk, drag, and a searing mockery of the dead ends of the electoral system. Joan’s story plays out as the subject of a 2019 play, Ms. Blakk for President, as well as a 2021 documentary, The Beauty President.

All proceeds will go directly to Joan’s medical care, storage unit costs, and toward outings from her rehab facility.
