In a time when LGBTQ+ rights and queer expression are under renewed attack across the country, we’re doubling down on joy, visibility, and the enduring legacy of drag. Legends of Drag isn’t just a show—it’s a fierce, intergenerational tribute to the queens who paved the way.
This year’s event shines a spotlight on many of the phenomenal performers featured in Legends of Drag: Queens of a Certain Age (Cernunnos, 2022)—trailblazing queens who have served as cultural icons, community leaders, and spiritual anchors for decades. From underground balls to blockbuster movies and TV shows, these legends have seen it all.
For the first time, our divas will be sharing the spotlight with the brilliant voices of The Red Ribbon Revue—a musical showcase of HIV-positive performers from across generations, created by Sam Bolen and Brian Mummert. Since its debut on World AIDS Day 2019, the Revue has stood as a joyful, unflinching celebration of life, identity, and the power of visibility.
Because in this moment, visibility is resistance, and celebration is our superpower. Join us and stand in solidarity with the legacies of those who made this all possible. Because history never looked (or sounded!) this good. Get your tickets today!
The Glamour is Resistance exhibition at Artspace Gallery in Richmond, Virginia features three Legends portraits: Rumi Missabu, Agosto Machado, and The Goddess Bunny.
The exhibition runs May 23 - July 19, 2025
Rumi Missabu was awarded the 1st place jury prize by juror Michael-Birch Pierce.
Glamour is Resistance draws its title from the powerful words of artist Justin Vivian Bond, reminding us that the very act of embracing and celebrating glamour within queer identity is inherently subversive. Understanding that glamour, like beauty, resides in the eye of the beholder, this exhibition explores how queer artists reclaim and redefine its meaning. This exhibition seeks to bring together a diverse group of queer artists who, through their work, challenge societal norms, redefine beauty, and assert their unapologetic presence in a world that often seeks to silence them.
In a time where LGBTQ+ voices continue to fight for visibility, equity, and protection, this show will engage with glamour not only as an aesthetic but as a defiant political act. Whether addressing the ongoing struggle for rights, celebrating the richness of queer culture, or simply presenting a bold declaration of self-expression, we want to show that queerness, in all its forms, is a powerful resistance to heteronormative expectations.
Live Arts’ Pride is an epic LGBTQIA+ pride extravaganza! NYC’s queer nightlife and art scene come together under one roof to serve up the city’s most colorful and fierce performance, music, queer marketplace, and more for a multi-space, nonstop celebration for the ages.
The Legends set will run from 2-4PM, featuring DJ Skirtsuit + performances by Barbara Herr, Simone & Stella D’Oro.

On Friday, June 7th @ 7:30 PM, the SKYY Vodka Mainstage welcomes groundbreaking performers that paved the way for the world of drag that we see today! Hosted by the lovely Dita Von, this Legends of Drag show is the ultimate tribute show featuring Miss B.J. Daniels, Shannon Dupree, DuWanna Moore, Christina Chase, Karen Valentine, and Maya Douglas!
In honor of Pride Month, and on HIV/AIDS Long-Term Survivors Awareness Day, the New York City AIDS Memorial presents the second annual Legends of Drag revue. Presented in partnership with the Whitney Museum of American Art, this celebratory evening celebrates queens featured in Legends of Drag: Queens of a Certain Age (Cernunnos, 2022), queer elders who have long been cultural and spiritual leaders within their communities.
The evening will feature performances by Linda Simpson (emcee), Simone, Ruby Rims, Egyptt LaBeija, Princess Diandra, Lawanda Jackson, and special guest Agosto Machado—all icons who paved the way for the drag renaissance of today.
Brave, campy, bold, witty, and most of all talented dancers, lip-synchers, live singers, and storytellers, these queens are survivors, thrivers, and ambassadors. As LGBTQ+ people, particularly the trans community and drag performers, have recently experienced an upsurge in discrimination, uplifting these trailblazers and sharing in their wisdom and joy is one of the most potent antidotes available to younger generations. Event tickets start at $10.
Live Arts’ Pride: The House Party epic celebration embodies and honors the historical importance and unwavering power of houses, collectives, and chosen family in LGBTQIA culture. Both legendary and young families from NYC’s queer nightlife and art scene come together under one roof to serve up the city’s most colorful and fierce performance, music, queer marketplace, installations and more for a multi-space, nonstop celebration for the ages.
Live Arts warmly welcomes the ingenious collectives Double Dutch Dreamz w/ Miz Jade, Legends of Drag, and Yas Mama to activate all Live Arts spaces including the lobby, studios, and main stage theater. These expressive, loving families share their distinct voices in back-to-back sets featuring a mix of jumping rope, music, drag, and more.
Legends of Drag will feature NYC-based legacy drag queens Princess Diandra and Simone and Miami-based DJ Adora. Yas Mama is Brooklyn’s queerest LatinX party featuring multidisciplinary artists focused on bringing latin sounds to the forefront. It will be represented by house mother Chata and members Hannah Lou, Lady Quesadilla, and The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula Season 4 star La Zavaleta.
Double Dutch Dreamz is an intergenerational program committed to preserving time honored traditions of jumping ropes, offering workshops throughout the day. Joined by Brooklyn drag icon Miz Jade on music, participants can show off their skills and/or learn double dutch by signing up for workshops in person on the day of the event.
This year’s expanded Queer Marketplace will activate Live Arts’ studios featuring fashions, makeup, jewelry, herbs, and more by local queer designers like Valentine Amartey, BoiPKG, JR Ceramics, Trans Equity Consulting, Made by AO, Legends of Drag, Voxigma Lo, Triple T-Shirts, and more to be announced! Music by Hair Stylist/Actress/Model, DJ Zenobia!
This year, in celebration of NYC Pride Month, the NYC AIDS Memorial is partnering with the creative team behind Legends of Drag (Abrams, 2022) to present a live, on-site revue at the Memorial featuring seven, fabulous drag elders—Caracol de Cuba, Dina Jacobs, Egyptt LaBeija, Kelly Ray, Ruby Rims, and Simone, with Linda Simpson serving as emcee—all of whom paved the way for the drag renaissance of today. Campy, brash, witty, and most of all talented dancers, lip-synch artists, and live singers, these queens are survivors, thrivers, and cultural ambassadors. As both drag performers and trans folks have increasingly become political targets and scapegoats, uplifting these trailblazers and sharing in their wisdom and joy is one of the most potent antidotes available in our arsenal.
